1. What the guides are for
Our caregiver guides help families and care teams understand and respond to the hardest parts of dementia care, especially sundowning. They explain what is happening and offer practical, non-drug approaches you can try at home. They are written for caregivers, in plain language.
2. How we source
Every factual claim in a guide is based on published guidance from reputable health organizations and research, such as:
- The Alzheimer's Association and Alzheimer's Society
- The US National Institute on Aging (NIA) and National Institutes of Health
- The UK National Health Service (NHS)
- Major academic medical centers such as Mayo Clinic and Johns Hopkins Medicine
- Peer-reviewed research, preferring systematic reviews over single studies
Each guide lists its sources at the end, with links so you can read the original. We do not rely on forums, anecdotes or other companies' marketing for facts.
3. How we write
- We say what is known, and we say plainly when something is uncertain or not well studied.
- We do not overstate what any approach can do, including Hamton.
- We flag situations that need a doctor, such as sudden confusion that may be delirium, clearly and early.
- We write with respect for the person living with dementia and for the people caring for them.
4. Review and updates
Every guide shows the date it was last updated, and we revisit guides when the guidance they rely on changes. When a guide has been reviewed by a named clinician, the reviewer, their credentials and the review date appear at the top of that guide. Where no reviewer is shown, the guide was written and checked against its sources by the Hamton editorial team.
5. Independence
Hamton makes a sundowning de-escalation product, and our guides mention it where it is relevant. The guidance itself does not depend on using Hamton: every approach we describe works without it. We do not accept payment for placement in our guides.
6. Corrections
If you believe something in a guide is wrong, out of date or unclear, email hello@hamton.co with the page and the issue. We review every report, correct confirmed errors promptly, and update the guide's date when we make a meaningful change.
7. Not medical advice
Our guides are for general information and support. They are not medical advice, and they do not replace diagnosis or treatment by a doctor or your care team. Hamton is a support tool, not a medical device. If someone is in danger or needs urgent medical help, contact emergency services.
